Quincy's High School Docent Program
MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS DOCENT TRAINING PROGRAM
Quincy Public Schools’ MFA Docent Program is an amazing opportunity for you to take advantage of one of the world’s greatest cultural institutions: Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts. As an MFA student docent you will be trained to understand and appreciate galleries that fit into a special theme that complements the freshman social studies curriculum. In the past we have explored: Asian Art, Influences of Classicism, American Art, and Religious Art. In addition to being a once in a lifetime opportunity, this is also a serious COMMITMENT and there are both expectations and rewards that you should understand.
You will be expected to attend all four training sessions at the Museum, from 9:00am to 2:30 pm. In addition, you will present your pieces of art to Social Studies students from both Quincy and North Quincy High Schools at two field trips this spring and two field trips for the following two academic years. In addition, there will fundraising responsibilities and several meetings a semester to fulfill program goals and maintenance.
The goal of this program is to be able to discuss the collection and relate your experience and knowledge from the Museum back to the classroom. You will be developing new skills and hopefully new friendships while still managing to have some fun!
Here are dates for this year's training sessions:
Oct 23rd, Nov. 20th and Dec. 4th
Dates for the spring field trips with 9th grade Social Studies classes are:
April 29th and May 6th
Written application deadline is Wednesday, October 9th @ 8pm. Please fill out the online application form. Essay questions should be emailed to [email protected]. There will be a mandatory informational meeting on Friday, October 11th @ 7:15 am in room D312.
Thank you for your interest and good luck!
THIS IS A 5 FIELD TRIP COMMITMENT FOR SOPHOMORE YEAR. 3 FIELD TRIPS FOR JUNIOR AND SENIOR YEARS. All docents must participate in Fundraising efforts (Acoustic Café).
